Graduate Nursing Leadership Certificates

The graduate nursing leadership certificate options provide a pathway for master’s prepared nurses to acquire specialized training in one of five concentrations: executive leadership, nursing education, legal nurse consulting, public health, and trauma and resilience. Individualized degree plans may be customized based on prior coursework completed.

There is a clinical component to each certificate concentration. Prior completion of clinical credentialing  clearance is mandatory before registering for a clinical course.

Program Competencies

In addition to the University’s graduate graduation competencies, students will be able to:

Executive Leadership

1.  Demonstrate a firm knowledge base in the areas of executive and management theories.

2.  Fill a leadership role in executive nursing practice through collaboration; client, staff, and management advocacy; sensitivity to diversity; and ongoing involvement in professional organizations.

3.  Negotiate an appropriate nursing leadership role within the context of an evolving health care system.

Nursing Education

1.  Incorporate findings from teaching/learning theories and research to educate individuals and groups.

2.  Fulfill a leadership role in the area of education by facilitating and encouraging the exploration and application of knowledge.

3. Design, evaluate, and refine innovative educational strategies and curricula that promote transformative learning and advance nursing practice across diverse populations and settings

Nursing Professional Development

1. Addresses the growing need for nurse specialists who can enhance workforce competence, improve clinical outcomes and foster innovation in healthcare delivery.

2. NPD roles play an integral role in ensuring that nursing staff remain current with evolving evidence-based practices and technological advancements.

3. Empower nursing leaders with the skills to design, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives within complex healthcare systems.

Legal Nurse Consultant

1.  Implement knowledge of the medical and legal system to meet the needs of their clients and society.

2.  Negotiate an appropriate role within the dynamic legal system.

3.  Promote the art of nursing by valuing the unique relationships among people, which create meaning and preserve human dignity.

Public Health

1. Monitor health status to identify, diagnose, and investigate community health problems and hazards in the community.

2. Achieve public health leader role by informing, educating, and empowering individuals about health issues.

3. Review and develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts. 

Trauma and Resilience

1. To help better prepare professionals who are competent in understanding and applying a trauma-informed approach (TIA) in a variety of environments.
